Learning Objectives :
At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
- Describe the current state of extended spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) infections and traditional antimicrobial regimens used to treat them.
- Discuss the data supporting and refuting the efficacy of BLBLIs versus carbapenems in treating ESBL infections.
- Describe the clinical situations when the use of BLBLIs to treat ESBL bloodstream infections are appropriate and effective.
