Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss current guidelines and poison center protocols for the recognition and treatment of calcium channel blocker (CCB) and beta-blocker (BB) overdoses.
  • Discuss differences in the use of insulin, vasopressors, intralipid fat emulsions and methylene blue between normal therapeutic indications and CCB or BB overdoses.
  • Outline factors not commonly considered in the treatment of an individualized patient at initiation and in response to therapeutic interventions.
