  • Explain the concept of a “maximum” dose of a vasopressor for septic shock and identify strategies to achieve goal mean arterial pressure in patients who exceed this maximum.
  • Discuss optimal sedation strategies for mechanically ventilated patients with septic shock requiring vasopressor therapy.
  • Describe risk associated with use of vasopressors through peripheral access.
  • Review risks associated with specific vasopressor agents used peripherally.
  • Describe reasonable surveillance of peripheral IV with administration of vasopressor agents and options for management of an identified extravasation event.
